A few thoughts about my cattle paintings:

The relationship between man and cattle dates back thousands of years. In countries such as India cows are considered holy animals, whereas the ancient Egyptians used to worship them.  Over the centuries numerous breeds have evolved through both natural selection and careful breeding programs, resulting in the fascinating and unique characteristics of each breed.  Growing up on a farm in the Free State gave me a unique perspective into the lives of these intriguing animals.  As a child I used to have a Friesian heifer as a pet and I fell in love with their gentle and intelligent nature.  In comparison to horses they are often overlooked but when you take a closer look you will notice just how magnificent these animals really are.  What I capture on the canvas is so much more than just an ordinary farm animal, it is a glimpse into one of God's most extraordinary creations.
