Deodanda Pretorius is a South African artist currently living and working full-time as fine artist in Cape Town.  She is also an art instructor and gives painting classes to adults at her Durbanville studio. Apart from being a retired scientific writer she holds both a Masters and Honours degree in Science (M.Sc & B.Sc Hons) in the field of medical & veterinary entomology along with a major in zoology. She brings a strong scientific and academic oriented perspective to her art instruction classes. She considers herself an expressive naturalist painter and is interested in cattle character studies, landscapes and floral works using mainly traditional oil paints and soft pastel as mediums. Her landscapes often depict rural and farms scenes that are devoid of human presence so as to reveal the beauty of the South African landscape.  Her rose and floral works serve as an internal reminder that time is fleeting. Her cattle work is a celebration of the lives, beauty and intelligence of these majestic yet often overlooked farm animals.
