South African artist Deodanda Pretorius is a full-time oil painter.  She is the owner of her own fine art studio and art school in Durbanville and gives painting classes to adults. She is also a retired medical writer and trained zoologist & entomologist and brings a unique scientific and academic oriented perspective to her art instruction classes. She considers herself an expressive naturalist painter and prefers traditional oil paints and dry media such as pastel, charcoal, and graphite.  Her landscapes show a strong post-impressionistic influence, often depicting rural and farms scenes that are devoid of human presence so as to reveal the raw beauty of the land.  Her floral works serve as a constant reminder to the viewer that time is fleeting. With her cattle studies she brings awareness towards one of man's oldest relationships as she turns the viewer towards the often overlooked physical beauty of these ordinary farm animals.
